Overview-

The oldest football competition in the International football world is the Copa America. It was first held in July 1916. The Copa America is the main football tournament in the Americas, North and South. The competition is mainly made up of teams from South America, but there are a few North American teams that participate. The tournament is made up of 12 teams. 10 teams are from South America. They are Argentina, Brazil, Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Paraguay, Peru, Uruguay and Venezuela in this year's tournament. Two teams are invited to take part in the tournament. These are CONCACAF teams. For a good few years, Mexico has being invited to take part, along with another team chosen. This year the two teams that have being invited are Mexico and the USA. Unlike most tournaments, there is no qualification for the Copa America. There are always 12 places available, and each team that is eligible to play in it has a chance to enter. The teams that are entered into the tournament are done so by their performance in World Cup finals and qualifications in their confederations. There is no qualification for invitees to take part in either. The tournament is in its 42nd edition. It used to be held every two years but recently the CONMEBOL changed it to every four years. Argentina and Uruguay have won the most finals, and Argentina has also played the most games, with 353. Although Argentina has won a lot of tournaments, they have not won it since 1993 when they beat Mexico, 2-1 in Ecuador. Most recently Brazil has being winning the tournament. They won the last tournament in Peru, in 2004. They beat Argentina 4-2 on penalties, after drawing 2-2 after extra time. Brazil, have only won it 7 times. Brazil go into this tournament of 2007 as the defending champions. You can see if they defend the title and win another final by live football online.
