Jonathan Douglas Looking Forward To Return |

Jonathan Douglas has revealed he enjoyed his spell in Kent two years ago - even though it ended in relegation. The Leeds midfielder spent two months at Priestfield in 2005 along with his then Blackburn colleague Jay McEveley. Douglas impressed in his 10 appearances for the Gills, and came within inches of scoring a winning goal in the 0-0 draw with Ipswich in March. The season, of course, ended in heartbreak as the Gills were relegated by just one goal after a 2-2 draw at Nottingham Forest, where a late Eugen Bopp goal sent us down. He actually made his Gills debut in the last meeting between us and Leeds - a 1-1 draw at Elland Road which saw both teams end with 10 men - and he is expecting a tough game at Priestfield on Saturday. He told Leeds' official website: 'It's another important game for us. They'll be strong and they'll make it difficult for us. 'When we go it'll be a full house and their fans will make themselves heard - but we know if we carry on we are capable of getting the right results from games. 'We got relegated by a goal in the last minute of the season. It was difficult to take getting relegated in that way. 'Stan Ternent came in as new manager in the December and we'd done our best to get out of the situation. We almost escaped, but it wasn't to be. 'To be honest, I enjoyed it there. I appreciated my time at Gillingham and it was good to play regular in the Championship. |
