Vital Blackburn's most recent Poll, suggested by IsraeliRover asked "Which of our following youngsters turned out to be the most disappointing?" Marlon Broomes. In the mid to late 1990's a defender by the name of Marlon Broomes was supposed to burst onto the scene to become one of the next big things, but between 1994 and 2001 after less than 50 League and Cup performances for Rovers, and a few loan spells away he was given a free transfer to Sheffield Wednesday. So with almost half of the vote, his 40% sees him as the most disappointing youngster to have come through. He is currently contracted to Stoke City, but a ruptured Achilles tendon un the summer of 2006 meant he missed the whole 2006-2007 season, and hasn't played a competitive match since. Not a lot could separate Welsh striker James Thomas (17%), Jonathan Douglas (14%) and Ben Burgess (11%) who were next on the disappointment stakes, with only Douglas from this band actually making some real inroads into the first team. Jerome Watt (8%), Martin Taylor (8%) and Damien Johnson (2%) completed what was a VERY interesting poll. |
