Southampton have removed a controversial statue of Ted Bates following complaints that it looked nothing like the club legend.
Saints fans had criticised the £100,000 memorial to the legendary player and manager, which was only unveiled at the club's St Mary's ground earlier this month.
Southampton chairman Leon Crouch has confirmed the statue, created by sculptor and Saints fan Ian Brennan, could now be altered or completely reworked.
"Ted was Southampton Football Club and we owe it to him to build a fitting statue," said Crouch.
"With hindsight some things could have been done differently, but this is not a time for recriminations. Let's just sit down and put things right.
"I'm a perfectionist and I want it to be just right. Mr Southampton deserves that.
"This was more than a commission, it was a passion and I'm sorry some supporters don't like the result."
