Euro 2008 Live
Euro 2008 has been hit by quite a few surprises- most surprisingly the rise of Scotland contrasted with the fall of neighbours England. At the beginning of the qualifying campaign, most expected the Scots to succumb to the combined power of World Cup finalists Italy and France, while few saw major problems for England in a group with Croatia and Russia. The opposite has been true however as Scotland sit top of their group while England have a real danger of not qualifying. Other teams have also pulled off surprises; Poland leading a group containing Portugal and Serbia, Sweden just ahead of Spain on goal difference and Romania leading the Netherlands by three points. If you want to watch both the qualifying games for Euro 2008, as well as the tournament itself, you can do so on OleOleFootball.com’s live football feeds.
The two year qualifying campaign has thrown up quite a few twists and turns along the way, but few expected events to be like this so late in the Euro 2008 qualifying stages. The ‘creators’ of the sport may be on the way out of the tournament after they lost to Russia away from home, and will need to pull off a win against Croatia next time around and hope that Russia fail against the Andorrans. As for the likes of the Netherlands and Spain, they should still qualify in either first or second place, although not finishing top would be a blow to morale. The three way battle between Scotland, France and Italy is really one for the spectator to enjoy, as Scotland surprised all (including the French twice, both home and away) to surge into first place, and although they still have to face Italy they have the matter of qualifying in their own hands. Were France or Italy not to qualify for Euro 2008, it would be a big blow to their teams, especially as both teams faced off in the summer during last year’s World Cup.
Apart from Scotland having to face the Italians, the remaining matches still throw up some good ties. The neigbourly battle between Ireland and Wales will be a good one to watch with the amount of passion involved, while there is a possibility of the Czech Republic slipping up at home to Slovakia. As for the other teams, Ukraine away will not be an easy match for France, who are struggling to qualify while Spain and the Netherlands must beat Northern Ireland and Belarus respectively to secure their places in the next round. Despite having to wait a month for the next round of action, there are still the domestic leagues to watch, and numerous international players will both gain and lose their form during that time.
