Ligue 1 has tended to be dominated by Lyon in the past; however after the club sold a lot of its players in the summer it looks like it may become a lot more competitive. Olympique Marseille and a few other teams will look to challenge them, and while this is there best chance in a long time, Lyon have not tended to stay down for long. Should you wish to get a glimpse of the next rising French stars, as quite a few (like Henry, Anelka, Malouda and Zidane) have emerged from Ligue 1 in the past, or should you just wish to watch a game or two, you can watch Ligue 1 live now at OleOleFootball.com with their live football feeds.

Last year, Lyon stormed to the title, blasting every other team out of their way and comfortably finishing seventeen points ahead of a Ribery-inspired Marseille in second place. Marseille did well to challenge for the Champions League group stages, finishing eight points ahead of their nearest competitors Toulouse (who lost to Liverpool in the qualifying rounds) while Rennes missed out and had to play for the UEFA Cup after they finished just a point behind third place. At the other end of the table, Nantes, Sedan and Troyes were relegated after some poor performances and a season most of their players will want to forget.

This season, Lyon have once again risen to the top of the pack, doing well despite their losses of Florent Malouda, Eric Abidal and other players in the summer. They have not done as well in Europe though, and have already been thrashed by both Barcelona and Scottish side Rangers in the group stages. They have been challenged in Ligue 1 this year by the unlikely force of AS Nancy Lorraine, who only finished thirteenth in the table last year. AS Nancy have surprised all to move up to second place, level with Lyon but just behind due to their inferior goal difference. Marseille have done a lot worse than expected due to the departure of star player Franck Ribery to Bayern Munich for around 20 million pounds, and have even fall into the relegation zone after picking up just seven points from their first ten games. Marseille have done reasonably well in Europe however, beating last year’s finalists Liverpool at Anfield and will hope to qualify.

Lyon have not sped away as they did last year, with Le Mans in third place with nineteen points followed by Bordeaux and Rennes who are just a further point behind. Fans of the league will hope that we finally see some competitive action this season, and should Marseille rise from the depths we may well do so.
