June 15^th sees the first group B action of the Confederation Cup, and the first match of the day is the Brazil vs. Egypt game which takes place at the 48,000 capacity Vodacom Park stadium in Bloemfontein. Brazil play in the tournament for a record sixth time, and do so thanks to their 2007 Copa America triumph. They won the prize in 1997 and 2005, and were runners up in 1999. Always everybody’s favourites, Brazil are always pleasing on the eye, but being pleasing does not always guarantee success. They won’t be travelling to South Africa as tourists though, and winning the competition is the aim, and with players like Kaka, Alves and Robinho they are bound to come close.

For their part, Egypt are taking part for the second time in the tournament and do so as 2008 African Cup of nations winners. The last time they entered was in 1999 and they were eliminated in the first round. Although having no superstars in their squad, they do have a couple of familiar names in Amr Zaki who plays his football in the English premier League with Wigan, and Mohamed Showky who also played in the English Premier League with Middlesbrough.

Egypt coach Hassan Sheheta knows that the task that lies in front of his team is monumental, but nevertheless is confident that they can go out and give a good performance – if not only for themselves, then for their fans back home in Egypt as well.
