Stuart Pearce’s England side head into this Championship on the back of a 7-0 victory over Azerbaijan. Unfortunately for England though, their under 21’s haven’t won the tournament since 1984. England have a good head to head record against the Scandinavians, the Three Lions winning four out of the last six games and losing only once.
England go into the tournament without defender Steven Taylor and Striker Danny Welbeck, but still have a strong squad full of Premier League regulars. England first team regular Arsenal winger Theo Walcott is one of the most exciting players in the tournament and the youngster spent time alongside Finland captain Tim Sparv at Southampton, before joining the Gunners.
This is the first time that Finland have qualified for a major tournament, but the Finn’s have never beaten England in a senior international. Finland coach Markku Kanerva has built his side on a solid defence and his side only conceded five goals in qualifying.
The aforementioned Tim Sparv is Finland’s midfield star and will be key to his side’s success. He can contribute a goal, the midfielder scoring goals against Denmark, Slovenia and Lithuania. Not only can he go forward he is also strong tackler and provides a good solid base for the side in midfield.
