Blackburn v Coventry Live

Blackburn come into the game on the back of 2-0 defeat at home to Aston Villa and needed a replay against Sunderland to reach the fifth round. The two sides had originally drawn 0-0 in an unimpressive display at the Stadium of Light, but finally progressed after a 2-1 win at Ewood Park after extra time. David Healy had put Sunderland ahead early on before Aaron Mokoena equalised for the home side and it seemed that the game was destined for penalties until Benny McCarthy struck late on in the 118^th minute to secure the win for Sam Allardyce’s men.

Coventry meanwhile should have had a fairly easy route into the fifth round with a 1-0 win over Blue Squad Premier side Torquay United, but the mid-table Championship club made hard work of their win and were perhaps lucky to progress. Elliot Ward struck 3 minutes from time to seal the win but the Devon side had numerous chances throughout the game to score a massive cup upset.

Coincidentally the two sides met in last years F.A cup third round, where Coventry thrashed a poor Blackburn side 4-1 at Ewood Park, with former striker and cup hero Michael Mifsud netting twice. Coventry have won on 2 of the 3 F.A cup ties the clubs have played, with Blackburn not beating the Championship side in the cup for 28 years.
