The FA Challenge Cup Final will take place on Saturday, May 30th. The two teams that will be facing off are Everton and Chelsea and will be held at Wembley Stadium in London. It was a long road getting here, from the very first round on September 13th. A new record was set this year when 762 Clubs were accepted for the events, but only 761 played as South Normanton Athletic dropped while the draws were being made, and two other teams dropped afterwards sending their opponents through on a bye. These teams competed over the past few months until the semi-final round in April, where Everton and Chelsea came out on top.

It started with the four qualifying rounds, which took place in the months of September and October of last year. The prize money for these qualifiers ranged between 3000 and 12,500 pounds. The first proper round was on November 8th, 2008 and featured a total of 40 fixtures and a prize of 20,000 pounds. That number was cut in half for the second round, featuring 20 fixtures and 10,000 pounds added to the prize money. The third round was on January 3rd and the prize money jumped all the way up to 75,000 pounds followed by the fourth round proper on January 24th, which had 16 fixtures and 100,000 pound prize.

In the fifth round four teams had to replay because of ties, and it ended with Chelsea beating Watford 3-1, while Everton had the same score over Asta Villa. In the reply of Hull City and Sheffield United, Hull City finally came out on top with a score of 2-1, while Middlesbrough beat West Ham 2-0 in the replay. Coventry City barely made it through with a score of 1-0 over the Blackburn Rovers, while Fulham beat Swansea City 2-1 in another replay. MU beat Derby County and Arsenal dominated over Burnley 3-0. That left a total of eight clubs that moved on to the sixth round – the final numbered round.

All of the sixth round matches were played on March 7th, 2009 with the exception of Arsenal and Hull City, which was played on March 17th. Chelsea beat Coventry City 2-0 at the Ricoh Arena, while Fulham lost badly to Manchester United, with a final score of 0-4. Arsenal and Hull City played at Emirates Stadium in London, with Arsenal taking the trophy 2-1 and Everton and Middlesbrough played on May 7th at Goodison Park in Liverpool. The final score for the Everton/Middlesbrough match was 2-1 in Everton's favor.
