Sunderland will look to the F.A Cup to provide a much needed morale boost as the Black Cats sit precariously above the relegation zone, just two points adrift of bottom side West Brom. The Black Cats also come into the tie on the back of a 2-1 defeat against Aston Villa.

Manager Ricky Sbragia has barely been in charge at the Stadium of Light for over a month, but the new boss has witnessed a revitalised Sunderland since the departure of former manager Roy Keane. Elsewhere Sunderland have been busy in the transfer market, having to focus on keeping their current squad after speculation linking Dean Whitehead and Kenwyne Jones away from the Stadium of Light.

Blackburn have also had to adjust under a new manager in the form of Sam Alllardyce after former boss Paul Ince was sacked following a poor string of results before the end of the year. Since then the Ewood Park faithful have been treated to somewhat of a revival under Allardyce as the Rovers are yet to lose under their new boss.

New signing Gael Givet is expected to make his debut in the game after failing to make the squad for Blackburn’s 3-0 win against Newcastle on the weekend. The club have a fine history in the competition with 6 F.A Cups to the their name, although their last triumph was back in 1928.
