Arsene Wenger’s arsenal side currently sit in third place in the league table with 25 points. That is eight points behind Chelsea but with one game in hand over the West London team. They go into the game against Carlo Ancellotti’s blues though on the back of a 1-0 away EPL defeat to Sunderland last time out so will be looking to rectify matters against Chelsea on Sunday.

Sunderland we actually the first team this season to prevent Arsenal from scoring a goal in a league game, and that stat in itself is mightily impressive. The defeat though seriously dented Arsenal’s charge at the table and the eight points separating them from Chelsea at the top of the table is significant. If the Gunners lose on Sunday then they will be eleven points behind Chelsea and will have effectively blown their title chances for this season.

For their part, Chelsea are having a fantastic season and currently lead the way by five points from second placed Manchester United. Out of the thirteen games they have played this season, they have won eleven of them, while losing only two. The two defeats did come away from Stamford Bridge though, so they are not infallible away from home.

Arsenal look to bounce back from their midweek Champions League defeat against Manchester United, with a victory over London rivals Chelsea at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday.  Chelsea however, still have faint hopes of winning the Premier League and won’t surrender the three points easily. Arsenal’s recent league form has been superb and they are now 21 league games unbeaten. They have won five out of the last six games, the other game resulting in a 4-4 draw at title challengers Liverpool. The Gunners have now secured Champions League football for another season, thanks to a 3-0 victory away at Portsmouth in their last Premier League game, a brace from Nicklas Bendtner and a strike from Carlos Vela enough to earn maximum points.

Arsenal are still without William Gallas and Thomas Rosicky, who are both sidelined for the rest of the season. Gael Clichy is also a doubt after being out injured for the last few weeks. Russian attacker Andrey Arshavin should return to the squad, after missing the Champions League defeat by Manchester United in midweek.

Chelsea are still in the race for the Premier League title, after defeating Fulham 3-1 at Stamford Bridge in their last Premier League outing, the goals coming from Nicholas Anelka, Florent Malouda and Didier Drogba. Manager Guus Hiddink has basically accepted defeat in the race for the Premier League, but the Blues could still manage to clinch the title if rivals Manchester United and Liverpool slip up in the remaining three games. They will have to be at their best in this clash though, to have any chance of catching their rivals.

Chelsea will again be without Portuguese trio Deco, Paulo Ferreira and Ricardo Carvalho, who are all long term absentees. Midfielder Joe Cole is also out for the rest of the season. The Chelsea boss has a decision to make in attack with Nicolas Anelka and Salomon Kalou vying for a spot on the left wing.
