However they continued on with a disappointing loss to Wolverhampton and then recently were absolutely crushed by Manchester United. They have yet to score a goal since their first game and need to play better against Everton or they risk falling further from the lead pack in the EPL.

Sixth place Everton face seventh place Wigan, searching for three vital points in their bid for Champions League next season. Wigan need the points in their challenge for a first ever European spot. Everton are 6^th place and are chasing Aston Villa and Arsenal in the race for the fourth Champions League spot. The Toffee’s look like they are going to qualify for Europe for the third successive year, they are currently seven points clear of today’s opponents Wigan. Although they suffered a 2-1 defeat at Portsmouth in their last game, they go into this game with only two defeats in 15 games. Everton have won five out of the last six games at Goodison Park, scoring 14 goals in the process.

Everton have an injury concern over Australian Tim Cahill, who missed the trip to Portsmouth but the makeshift striker has met up with his national squad this week, so is expected to figure in this clash. Louis Saha is likely to continue his comeback from injury up front, alongside Brazilian striker Jo. The French striker has struggled with injury since arriving on Merseyside, but has scored some vital goals for the Toffee’s.

Wigan have had a superb season under Steve Bruce and find themselves in the fight for a place in the Europa League next season. The Latic’s are currently 7^th ahead of West Ham and need a victory to gain an advantage on the Hammers. They clinched a 1-0 home victory against Hull in their last Premier League game, Ben Watson scoring a late winner. Hopes are high at the JJB Stadium that they could make a European debut next season.

Wigan’s top scorer Amr Zaki picked up an injury during midweek and the Egyptian is unlikely to be fit to face Everton. Zaki will most likely be replaced by Colombian international Hugh Rodallega, who Steve Bruce has used sparingly, starting only two games so far since his move from Necaxa in January.
