Portsmouth suffered a setback when it was revealed that Harry Redknapp was on his way to Tottenham following Spurs sacking of Juande Ramos. While Redknapp’s decision to make the switch is question given Spurs current condition, the work done by the former Southampton boss at Pompey has been nothing but commendable. The side inherited by new boss Tony Adams is among the finer ones in the Premiership and the former Arsenal skipper will be hoping to take it to the next level beginning with a victory over Wigan over the weekend at home.

Despite having two strikes on the top of their game in Amir Zaki and Emile Heskey, Wigan haven’t quite got off to the best of starts and currently languish in sixteenth position with just eight points from nine matches so far. They made their situation no better when they slipped up over the weekend away to Aston Villa 4-0. In a one sided encounter, Villa were without doubt the better side and the defeat will prompt coach Steve Bruce to take some much needed initiative to avoid any repeats when they take the field against Portsmouth at Fratton park.
