Blackburn Rovers face Stoke City at the Britannia Stadium this coming Saturday for an afternoon kick off. Blackburn is managing to stay in the middle of the table, but Stoke are still at the lower end and will want a more secure position in the EPL; well away from the relegation zone. Blackburn will be arriving at the Britannia Stadium following an away draw against West Ham last weekend. The last time they played Stoke was at home and they were held to a goalless draw. Blackburn will be hoping to do better this Saturday and make up for their disappointment at not signing striker Aruna Dindane after talks with RC Lens broke down this week.

Stoke were held to a goalless draw away to Sunderland on Monday night.  The match was long with few real chances at goal; Sunderland probably played better on the night. Stoke manager Tony Pulis said that he was happy to walk away with the point and praised his team’s defensive play. Stoke have had to also deal with their own transfer disappointments this week as their bid for goalkeeper Asmir Begovic fell through.

Saturday’s game could turn out to be an exciting encounter with both teams needing the points if they want to enjoy the relative safety of the mid-table position. Hopefully Stoke won’t be satisfied with a draw and will create some scoring opportunities. If they don’t then there is a good chance that Blackburn will take the upper hand. Stoke and Blackburn meet on Saturday at the Britannia Stadium in a relegation six pointer. Stoke find themselves just six points above the relegation zone, with Rovers just four points clear. Stoke find themselves in 13^th position in the Premier League, six points clear of the relegation zone. Stoke’s home form has provided the basis for their Premier League survival, with eight out of their nine league victories coming at the Britannia Stadium and the Potters have only suffered three defeats at home. Stoke drew their last game 1-1 against Newcastle at the Britannia, Amdy Faye giving the Potters the lead, before Andy Carroll secured a point for the Magpies late on. A few more victories should make their Premier League secure for another season.

Tony Pulis is confident that striker James Beattie will be fit for this clash after the former Everton star picked up a head injury against Newcastle.  Mamady Sidibe however is still missing, the striker is believed to be out for the rest of the season with a knee problem.

Blackburn suffered a heavy 4-0 defeat at Liverpool in their last game, Liverpool’s goals coming from a Fernando Torres brace and goals from Daniel Agger and David N’Gog. The result leaves Blackburn in 16^th position in the Premier League, just four points clear of the relegation zone. Blackburn’s recent form has been patchy in their last six games, wining two games, drawing two and losing two. They have secured two vital victories away from home in recent weeks, winning at Hull and Fulham, before losing 4-0 at both Arsenal and Liverpool.

Sam Allardyce must decide whether to keep faith with makeshift striker Christopher Samba or reinstate experienced striker Benni McCarthy. The defender could continue upfront, as Rovers have doubts over Roque Santa Cruz and Jason Roberts. Rovers will also have to check on the fitness of midfielders Morten Gamst Pedersen and El-Hadji Diouf ahead of this clash, as both also missed the trip to Anfield.
