Stoke City travelled down to London last time out to face Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium. They weren’t expected to get much of a return from the match and as things turned out, they didn’t. A 2-0 defeat at Arsenal is certainly no disgrace, and clubs such as Stoke are not really expected to get much change away to the Big Four teams. Nevertheless, Stoke have now only managed one win from their last five games in the Premier League and although their league position remains good, the loss of points is starting to get worrying for boss Tony Pullis.
City are currently eleventh in the league standings and they have twenty points from fifteen games played so far. They have played seven games at the Britannia Stadium, winning four of them, drawing one and losing another two. They have though, only scored nine times at home so far this season.
For their part, Wigan come into the game against Stoke on the back of a disappointing home defeat to Birmingham City. Despite taking the lead in the clash with a goal from N'Zogbia in the 33rd minute, within the space of eleven second half minutes they conceded three goals to put the tie firmly beyond them. They did pull one back in the last minute but the points by then had already disappeared over the horizon.

Mid-table sides Stoke and Wigan meet at the Britannia Stadium on Saturday, both sides looking to complete their season in strong fashion. Stoke secured their safety last weekend, reaching 42 points. Wigan on the other hand have been sliding in recent weeks, but still find themselves sitting comfortably in mid-table. Stoke secured their Premier league status for next season, by winning 2-1 at Hull’s KC Stadium last weekend. Ricardo Fuller and Liam Lawrence put the Potter’s ahead, before Hull got a goal back through Andy Dawson. It was a deserved victory and just reward for a superb season of hard work by manager Tony Pulis and his players. They entered the season as one of the favourites to go down, but they have defied the odds and kept themselves up with two games to spare.
Stoke only really injury worries are those of midfielder Salif Diao, defender Danny Higginbotham and striker Mamady Sidibe, who are all out for the rest of the season. Amdy Faye however could make a return, after the defender missed recent games through a back problem.
Wigan will be kicking themselves after dropping from the top seven in the Premier League to the bottom half in just a few months. Although they have dropped in recent months, Wigan have still had a good season, especially after the Latic’s struggle against relegation last season. The side from Lancashire suffered a 3-1 defeat last time out at West Brom. Two goals from Marc Antoine-Fortune and a penalty from Chris Brunt were enough to take the three points, with Hugo Rodallega scoring the Latics sole reply. Wigan will be hoping to claim maximum points in their last two games.
Striker Mido is doubtful for this clash, with a shoulder injury. Wigan also have doubts over goalkeeper Chris Kirkland and striker Amr Zaki, after both picked up injuries in the defeat at the Hawthorns. Richard Kingson will deputise in goal if Chris Kirkland isn’t deemed fit to play.
