Aberdeen beat Celtic 4-2 at Pittodrie in January, and another win against the Bhoys will give Jimmy Calderwood’s Europe chasing men a huge morale boost. However Zander Diamond, the man who scored a brace in that 4-2 win, is out injured, and so are Lee Miller and Darren Mackie.

Jamie Smith and Derek Young are also injured, which leaves Calderwood woefully short of options upfront. Young striker Chris Maguire, a Scottish U-21 international, should start. Tommy Wright is the favourite to partner him, but reserve forward Michael Paton is also an option. The Dons are just one point behind Dundee United, who currently hold the second Europa League spot.

Celtic’s last league game was against Aberdeen at Celtic Park. Dutch striker Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink and Scott Brown scored for the Hoops as they won 2-0. If they manage to beat Aberdeen on Saturday, Gordon Strachan’s men could open a four point gap between them and second placed Rangers, who play on Sunday.

Scott Brown will miss this game as he is suspended. Celtic’s fixture list after the Aberdeen game sees them away to Rangers in another Old Firm derby. Celtic were superior to Aberdeen in every aspect of the game last time around, and unless Aberdeen raise their game, they will be easy pickings for the Bhoys.
