Rangers have already begun collecting this season’s silverware after their 1-0 win in the Co-operative Insurance Cup final against St Mirren. Many fans feel now certain that the domestic treble is a sure thing; the league certainly seems to be theirs to lose. Still things could still go wrong and it is best not to count your chickens before their hatched. The Gers will be playing Dundee United midweek prior to going up against Hearts at the weekend.

Hearts suffered a 2-0 defeat to Dundee United at Tannadice Park in their first SPL game. To add to insult to injury midfielder Michael Stewart was dismissed for two bookable offences. Hearts find themselves near the bottom of the fledgling SPL table, but they know that one defeat doesn’t make a season. They also know a victory over Rangers will erase the memories of that defeat.

Hearts have talented midfielder Eggert Jonsson in their squad, the Icelandic youngster has impressed since breaking in to the first team squad. Former Sheffield United striker Christian Nade provides the fulcrum of their attack and can cause any defence a problem.

Rangers started their SPL campaign with a convincing 4-1 defeat of Falkirk. A Kenny Miller double and goal each from Lee McCulloch and Steven Naismith were enough for victory, with Falkirk’s lone reply coming from Carl Finnigan. The result gave Rangers an early lead at the top of the SPL table. Rangers failed to strengthen their squad during the summer, but Walter Smith’s side are still well equipped to challenge bitter-rivals Celtic for the SPL crown this season.

Scotland international striker Kenny Miller has started the season in good form and will be hoping to continue that good form against the Jambo’s. Northern Ireland international midfielder Steven Davis is the key creative spark in the Gers midfield and is one to watch in this clash.

After narrowly missing out on the title last season, Rangers will be desperate for success this time around. However, things haven’t quite gone according to plan as they currently languish four points below Celtic after just fifteen games in the season. Rangers are currently second in the twelve team Scottish Premier League table with thirty six points from fifteen matches and come into this fixture on the back of a 2-0 victory over Aberdeen. Victory here will give them an opportunity to close in on Celtic and they will be hoping to continue their strong form when they come up against Hearts.

After a miserable season last time around, Hearts have been in great form this season and come into this clash with twenty-six points from fifteen matches. However, they are still a massive ten points adrift of second placed Rangers and following up on their 2-1 victory over Falkirk, they will be eager to repeat their last season upset over the Gers with a strong home performance over the weekend round of matches in the Scottish Premier League.
