Hibernian have started the SPL with two victories from two games. In their last game they won 3-1 at Falkirk and beat St Mirren 2-1 at Easter Road in their previous game. Ryan Flynn gave Falkirk the lead, but Hibs were quick to reply with Souleymane Bamba equalising just before half time. Former Celtic striker Derek Riordan scored a second half brace to secure three points.

The Scottish international failed to make an impact at Parkhead and returned to Hibs after two years. Since returning to Easter Road the striker has regained the form which made him one of the brightest prospects in the Scottish game. He will be the biggest threat to the Hoops defence in this clash and could cause the Hibs defence real problems.

Celtic have won two out of two SPL games so far this season. Celtic hammered St Johnstone 5-2 at Parkhead in their last league match. Shaun Maloney and Marc Antoine-Fortune both scored braces with Scott McDonald also getting on the scoresheet. Jody Morris and Collin Samuel scored the goals for the away side. The victory followed their 3-1 away victory at Aberdeen on the first weekend of the SPL season.

New signing Marc Antoine Fortune has made a perfect start to his Celtic career, scoring in both league games since his arrival at the club. He has already forged a good partnership with Australian striker Scott McDonald up front.

Hibs drew 1- with Rangers at Easter Road on Wednesday night. Former Celtic striker Derek Riordan gave Mixu Paatelainen’s men the lead in the first half with a superb strike to stun the travelling Rangers fans. Riordan had another opportunity to double Hibs’ lead in the second half, but he mis-kicked with the goal at his mercy.

Substitute Nacho Novo finally got the equaliser for Rangers, scoring after Belgian keeper Ma-Kalambay had failed to claim Majid Bougherra’s cross. Novo also had an earlier attempt disallowed by referee Eddie Smith. The ball seemed to have crossed the line before Ross Chisholm cleared it, but the linesman’s flag stayed down.

Celtic’s chances to retaining the SPL are now firmly in their own hands after Rangers dropped points against Hibs. The Bhoys won their league game 2-1 against Dundee United and now lead the SPL on goal difference.

Dutch defender Glenn Loovens gave Celtic the lead at Parkhead in the 22nd minute by heading home from a Shunsuke Nakamura corner. Greek striker Georgios Samaras doubled Celtic’s lead half an hour later, but United made sure of a tense ending when they pulled one back through David Robertson just five minutes later. It wasn’t an easy win for Celtic by any stretch of imagination, but they got the result they wanted.
