Rangers will look to get back to winning ways after a 0-0 draw at Kilmarnock in their last outing with a victory over Aberdeen at Ibrox on Saturday. Rangers last outing a 0-0 draw against Kilmarnock was a bad tempered affair which saw Gers midfielder Pedro Mendes dismissed and Killie’s Manuel Pascali was also shown a red. It was a disappointing day for the champions as rivals Celtic won and went to the top of the SPL table.
Rangers boss Walter Smith will see this as the perfect chance to bounce back to winning ways. They are currently two points behind Celtic in the SPL but at this stage of the season it’s not a massive gap to bridge. The Gers will be hoping for a better performance than the draw at Kilmarnock.
Rangers will be without the aforementioned Pedro Mendes as the midfielder starts his suspension. Striker Kenny Miller could be in line to replace former Kilmarnock striker Kris Boyd, who failed to impress against his old club last weekend.
Aberdeen are fifth in the SPL table after defeating St Mirren 1-0 in their last game at Pittodrie. They left it late to score the winner former Celtic midfielder Charlie Mulgrew scoring an 88th minute winner. However this game will represent a bigger challenge than last weekend’s game. Ibrox is one of the hardest grounds in the country to win at and they could face a difficult afternoon in Glasgow.
Aberdeen could be without defender Zander Diamond and striker Sone Aluko who went AWOL and missed last Saturday’s victory over St Mirren. The Nigerian striker decided to join up with his national sides under-20s without permission from the Dons.

After undoing all the good work they did in the Old Firm derby in their midweek fixture against Hibs, Rangers host Aberdeen this weekend in the Scottish Premier League. Rangers came into the midweek fixtures holding a two point lead over Celtic, but their inability to pick up all three points at Hibs, coupled with the Hoops’ win over Dundee United, means that the SPL title race is open once again. Rangers and Celtic are on the same number of points, but the latter lead on goal difference.
Derek Riordan gave Hibs a shock first half lead at Easter Road, and Walter Smith responded by bringing on Nacho Novo and Kyle Lafferty on at the interval. The Spanish striker had a goal disallowed twenty minutes from time, but he did manage to score an equaliser for Rangers with twelve minutes left on the clock after Hibs keeper Ma-Kalambay had fumbled Majid Bougherra’s cross.
Aberdeen’s chances of playing European football next season took a huge blow after they could only draw against ten man Heart of Midlothian at Pittodrie. Hearts are now assured of playing in Europe next season, while Aberdeen now have to fight it out with Dundee United for the fourth spot.
Jamie Smith had the best opportunity of the game for Aberdeen, but he could not convert. Mark Kerr, who missed the game against Hearts, will be back in midfield against Rangers. Zander Diamond, Derek Mackie and Derek Young remain sidelined due to injury.
Both teams have lot to play for. For Aberdeen, a loss would place Dundee United in pole position to take the final Europa league spot. Watch Rangers v Aberdeen live online. Sign up today!!!

Rangers have been in flying form this season and after missing out on the title narrowly last season, they will be eager to put a hold on Celtic’s three-year winning streak this time around. However, a string of otherwise results has seen them drip four points below Celtic in just the opening fourteen matches of the season and Walter Smith will be hoping that the Gers can conjure up better performances in the matches to come. As things currently stand, Rangers occupy second place in the twelve team SPL table with thirty three points from fourteen matches and will be looking to improve upon their shady 2-1 win over St.Mirren last time around.
Aberdeen on the other hand, occupy the sixth position in the table with eighteen points from fourteen matches that includes a 2-2 draw against Hibernian last weekend. The Dons are fifeteen points below their illustrious opponents in the backdrop to this clash and despite their underdog status, they will be hoping to cause an upset when they take the field against Rangers in the weekend round of matches in the Clydesdale Bank Premier League.
