Milan beat Fiorentina 2-1 on Wednesday night thanks to Alexandre Pato’s stoppage time effort. La Viola had taken the lead through Alberto Gilardino and kept it intact till Milan substitute Klaas Jan Huntelaar arrived with an equaliser. In extra time, Ronaldinho floated a cross into the box and Fiorentina’s defenders crowded around Marco Borriello, who was first in line to it, without paying attention to Pato. Borriello missed his attempted bicycle kick and the ball bobbled to Pato, who fired home from close range.

Atalanta stayed in the relegation zone as they were beaten 1-0 by Chievo Verona in their last game. Flying Donkeys skipper Sergio Pellissier scored what was to be the winning goal just before half time.

Milan crashed to a 2-1 away defeat at Sampdoria last week, prompting chairman Adriano Galliani to say that Ancelotti would remain coach only if Milan finished at least third in the Serie A. The Rossoneri are now twelve points behind city rivals and league leaders Inter.

This could be David Beckham’s last appearance in a Milan shirt if the Italian club and LA Galaxy do not reach upon an agreement to extend his spell in Italy. Milan’s home form has been quite good, losing only one game out of thirteen.

Atalanta lost 2-0 to lowly Chievo last week. The Bergamaschi were without influential skipper Cristiano Doni, who missed the game with a thigh injury. Luigi Del Neri’s side are currently 9th in the league with 36 points from 26 games.

In the last five games between Atalanta and Milan, the former have won two and the latter have won three. In March 2008, Atalanta shocked Milan 2-1 at the San Siro. Forwards Sergio Floccari and Antonio Langella, who is now at Chievo, netted for Atalanta.
