Milan drew 1-1 with Swiss side FC Zurich in the Champions League on Tuesday. Milan Gajic gave Zurich the lead in the 29^th minute when he curled a free kick left footed past the Milan wall and into the bottom corner of Christian Abbati’s net. Milan drew level in the 64^th minute when Alain Rochat gave away a penalty by fouling Marco Borriello in the box. Playmaker Ronaldinho sent Zurich keeper Johnny Leoni the wrong way to tie the scores.

Defender Thiago Silva was substituted early in the Zurich game, and is a major doubt for Palermo’s visit. The Brazilian suffered a left calf sprain and was replaced by Kakha Kaladze. Despite the draw, Milan qualified for the last sixteen of the Champions League from Group C.

Palermo beat in form Cagliari last week to continue their strong home form. Alessandro Matri put Cagliari ahead in the 24^th minute, but the Rosanero equalised through Igor Budan’s 20 yard effort. Danish defender Simon Kjaer scored the winning goal on 65 minutes, heading in Giulio Migliaccio’s corner.

Palermo will welcome Fabio Liverani back from suspension, but will be without skipper Fabrizio Miccoli, who is serving a longer ban for insulting the fourth official in Palermo’s 1-0 loss to Chievo Verona.

Evergreen forward Filippo Inzaghi scored a hat trick in Milan’s 5-1 demolition of Torino last week. Brazilian playmaker Kaka scored the fourth from the spot, with Massimo Ambrosini adding a fifth late in the game. The win took Milan to second place, ahead of third placed Juventus on goal difference.

Milan beat the Hungarian League Team 5-2 in a midweek friendly in Budapest. Kaka celebrated his birthday by scoring Milan’s equaliser on the night. Andriy Shevchenko netted a brace, and Clarence Seedorf and Tabare Viudez also found the back of the net as Milan scored five goals for the second time running.

Palermo are three points behind AS Roma, who currently hold the final Europa League spot. They crushed Bologna 4-1 last week and handed Giuseppe Papadopulo a defeat in his first game as Bologna manager. Manuel Belleri’s own goal gave Palermo the lead, and strikes from Simon Kjaer and Davide Succi made it 3-0 midway through the second half.

Edison Cavani added a fourth in stoppage time after Marco Di Vaio had pulled one back for the visitors as Palermo ran out deserved winners at the Renzo Barbera. Palermo beat Milan 3-1 when the two sides met in November last year. Cavani, Fabricio Miccoli and Fabio Simplicio were the scorers for the Sicilian club. Brazilian Ronaldinho scored a late consolation goal from the spot for Milan.
