Parma crashed to their fifth defeat in six league games when they lost 2-1 to Palermo on Saturday. Edison Cavani had put Palermo ahead minutes after the hour mark but Parma managed to snatch an equaliser through Jonathan Ludovic Biabiany on 72 minutes. However Fabio Simplico’s late winner allowed Palermo to maintain their quest for European football and condemned Parma to their ninth league defeat of the season.

Inter on the other hand had no such issues as they beat Cagliari 3-0 at home. Macedonian international Goran Pandev’s early opener and Walter Samuel’s header put the Nerazzurri in the drivers’ seat at half time. Pandev’s strike partner Diego Milito added a third early in the second half to crush any hopes Cagliari might have harboured of a comeback.

Things have gone downhill for Parma since their 2-1 win over Bologna in mid December. Since then, Francesco Guidolin’s men have picked up just one point from five games. Losses to Roma, Juventus, Livorno and most recently Catania have pushed the Crusaders into the bottom half of the Serie A table.

Parma were beaten 3-0 by relegation threatened Catania last week. The Sicilian outfit took the lead through Giuseppe Mascara and could even afford a penalty miss from the same player seven minutes later as they cruised to a 3-0 win. Jorge Andres Martinez and Takayuki Morimoto were the other scorers for the Rosazzurri on that day.

After beating arch rivals AC Milan last Sunday, Inter were in action in the Coppa Italia on Thursday evening. The Nerazzurri had been drawn against Juventus in the last eight of the tournament and managed to knock the Bianconeri out by winning 2-1.

Inter fell behind when Brazilian playmaker Diego put Juve ahead, but second half strikes from defender Lucio and striker Mario Balotelli gave Jose Mourinho’s men a 2-1 win. Both Lucio and Dutch playmaker Wesley Sneijder, who also featured against Juve, will have to watch Sunday’s clash from the sidelines. The duo were sent off in Inter’s 2-0 league win over AC Milan and are serving one and two game suspensions respectively.
