Bundesliga club Werder Bremen are not enjoying the best of seasons and are currently occupying tenth position in their league with 35 points. That is a full thirteen points off the Holy Grail of Champions League qualification and if they are not careful, they may not even make it to next season’s inaugural Europa Cup.

Domestically, Udinese are not enjoying the best of times. They have only won one league game in the last seven and last weekend lost at home to league leaders Inter 1-0. They currently occupy fourteenth position in Serie A with 36 points and their away form in the league is not too good, with only two victories, four draws, and nine defeats in the fifteen games played.

In the last round of the UEFA Cup, they managed to see off the challenge of Zenit St. Petersburg over two legs by 2-1, despite losing the second leg 1-0. They hope to put their domestic woes behind them and make a concerted effort for progression to the semi-finals of this competition.
