Another Qualifier takes place on Thursday, this time between Columbia and Peru, and with only four automatic World Cup slots available for the South American Zone, this game is going to count for a lot as these teams compete for South Africa. Peru however, is sitting on only one win out of 12 games. They lost seven times and drew four times for a total point value of seven. Columbia is ranked 8th, and has a total of 14 points. They have played for 3 wins, 5 draws and 5 losses. The top ranked South American team is of course, Brazil, with 24 points.

Peru faced off against Paraguay October 15th of last year. At the time it was Paraguay who held the number two spot, with Peru at the very bottom of the rankings, where they currently still are. The Paraguay goalkeeper, Leao Butron, had his hands busy with attempted goals from Peru, but was able to save them all. The game was going along with what looked like was going to be an 0-0 draw when Paraguay sub Edgar Benitez slapped a close-range goal at the 82nd minute of the game.   This gave Paraguay the win, with the final score being 1-0.

The last game that Columbia played was away at Brazil, and the home team was left looking for an explanation after Columbia was able to hold them off from making a goal throughout the game. It was their second goalless match at home for the five-time world champions, in just a month's time. Brazil was also thwarted by Bolivia when they played in Rio de Janeiro, which left the Brazilians wondering why they didn't have a goal in either game. Of course, they had won the last two away matches prior, and kept both Bolivia and Columbia from scoring so they didn't have too much to complain about.

Columbia has a chance of making it to one of the four slots for South Africa, depending on future games, but it will take some work. Currently, the points they need to beat are 22, held by fourth spot Argentina. With only 14 points, that leaves Columbia with eight to make up, and one more to surpass Argentina. Peru travels to Medellin on Thursday, June 11th and you can catch the game live with your membership.
