Celtic’s slip ups in the league towards the fag end of December enabled Rangers to get a strong rip on the league and the Hops will be hoping for a better rub of the green as they gear up to host Kilmarnock at home this weekend.

Celtic cruised through to the next round of the Scottish Cup with a comprehensive 3-0 victory over Sterling last weekend and will be happy with the general form of their strikers. Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink and Shunsuke Nakamura in the build up to this crucial tie. Celtic have a real chance of coming back into the SPL as the host Rangers in a week’s time and will be further encouraged by the return to full fitness of key midfielder Shunsuke Nakamura who proved to be the difference between the two sides last year.

Celtic are currently three points below Kilmarnock and can ill afford another setback when they host the Rugby park outfit this weekend.

Kilmarnock are currently languishing in the ninth position and have seen their form drip alarmingly over the past few matches with some very indifferent results. Kilmarnock drew their last game away to Hearts in a hard fought encounter which ended one apiece. Kilmarnock have been heavily reliant all season on the goals from Colin Nash and manager Jim Jefferies will be desperate to fend off any attention from other clubs for the burly striker during the January transfer window.

In other news, Celtic are very close to snapping up defender Daniel van Buyten from Bayern Munich to add to their other new signing in the winter, Andrew Henkel from Sevilla.
