Germany come up as a resurgent force in world football in recent years and much of it can be attributed to their strong frontline. The likes of Lucas Podolski, Miroslav Klose and Bastian Schweinsteiger form a formidable trio upfront and they will be hoping that they can continue their fine international form of the 2006 World Cup championships. The midfield will be marshalled by Chelsea’s Michael Ballack who has been brilliant in his second season at England leading the Blues to the final of the UEFA Champions League. With a host of attacking players supporting the midfield such as Mario Gomez who has been sensational for Stuttgart, expect the Germans to throw caution to the wind when they come up against Poland this weekend. The Germans have flopped at the European championships in their last two attempts, missing out even qualification to their next round after winning the Championships in 1996 and Coach Joachim Low will be hoping that they can take a winning stride into the next round of the Championships.

Poland on the other hand, are the least fancied of all the sides in group A and would do good to come away with a single point against the fancied Germans. However, in Brazilian born Roger Guerrero and Emmanuel Olisadebe up front they are not short of striking options and can cause a panic or two to a much weekend German defence. Poland did well to qualify as group winners in their Euro 2008 qualifiers in a group that consisted of the likes of Portugal and Belgium winning both their matches against the Portuguese. Poland will consider themselves lucky to be placed in what is arguably the weakest group in the Championships and coach Beenhaker will be hoping to make history by being the first Polish coach to take his side into the quarter finals of the Euro championships.
